The First Crisis Service (based in Paisley) provides immediate support and crisis intervention to people experiencing mental health problems across Renfrewshire. We support around 700 people each year. We are looking for staff with a sound experience of supporting mental health issues who have a passion for supporting people on their recovery journey. You will gain valuable experience in crisis work and develop your knowledge in crisis interventions. The service provides support via telephone and by face to face contact with clients. This is an opportunity to get additional training and experience in this unique area. We can offer a variety of shifts. The service operates 9am-8pm on Monday to Friday and 9am-5pm Saturday and Sunday.
You will require at least 2 years’ experience of supporting people in the community who experience mental health problems, and require a qualification to a minimum of SVQ III or equivalent. Successful applicants will be required to work (following extensive induction) on their own initiative, leading the provision of support to clients in crisis as part of a small team. You will be required to quickly assess the support needs of clients, carry out risk assessments and decide on appropriate courses of action. Excellent verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to keep clear and concise records of your client contact, both electronic and written. Experience of crisis intervention work is an advantage and it is desirable for you to have attended Scottish Mental Health First Aid, ASIST and/or Safetalk training. You must be able to follow rigorous procedures and protocols to deliver required outcomes for service users and to reduce risk for service users.
